Chickens spend night on campus!!

We got it done!! Allie and I made the final run to Home Depot (for this project), came back and assisted Nate and Stu in finalizing the coop.  The nine chickens are spending their first night in it tonight! From what we could gather this afternoon, they're as excited about it as Allie is to have them out of her house.  Tomorrow we'll hang up netting to keep the hawks away from the happy meals.  We began rototilling the garden today.  It's mighty fun.  Tomorrow afternoon i'm hoping we'll take an off site trip to research. If you're at school for lunch don't forget to compost some of your appropriate scraps.  Peace out!

  1. I'm so upset I have not gotten a chance to see the chickens yet!! Allie talks about them all the time and it is kind of awesome that Hawken actually has chickens living on campus. I also give you guys props for building a chicken coop as I would have no idea where to even start for that project. I know Allie just recently acquired the chickens but when will they be full grown?
Also very glad to hear you guys are starting composting again at Hawken. We have been doing it at my house for as long as I can remember and I really believe its a great way to cut down on waste. I know Seth started it a couple years ago but glad to see you guys are picking it back up after it's been gone.
