The Octagon

Today was a fun day at the Kuk Sul Do studio.  Jason was full of energy per usual.  One thing I really like about his morning workout classes is the music he plays.  He literally has the best workout playlist I have ever heard.  It is the perfect mix of pop, golden oldies, indie and hip-hop that will keep you going through any workout.  He also changes the music for every class, which I love.  I’ve tried to get a mix CD from him but he has a “shuffle” IPod so he can only keep one playlist on his IPod at a time, meaning the day after a class he has no idea what was on the playlist the day before.  One day I’ll have to bring my phone into the class and Shizam the songs so I have them on my IPod.
After the workout class we did our usual boxing drills with Jason and learned some new skills.  But then, instead of sparring on the mat Jason took us into The Octagon.  For those of you that don’t know, The Octagon is a mat shaped like an octagon surrounded by a fence, with an open top.  It is basically a cage.  Professional boxers either box in the octagon or “the ring” (the standard square mat surrounded by rope).  So today we sparred Jason in the octagon.  It was a great experience and cool to be able to say I’ve done that.  It is a weird feeling being locked in a cage to fight but with Jason everything is pretty chill so we still had fun.
