Sorry
for the delay in posting (I’ve clearly missed the Monday post), the surprise
dial-up only internet connection at my lodgings has me sitting outside of a
Starbucks mooching the free WiFi, so needless to say these posts will be a bit
difficult. The 5-hour plus drive went pretty smoothly and I’d like to say I’ve
mastered the cruise control. Today was our - the most extraordinary Sami Crane
and myself of course – first full day in DC, so responsible students that we
are we decided to register for our APs at TC Williams. TC Williams is the
formerly racist high school featured in the predictably uplifting film Remember
the Titans, starring the dashing Denzel
Washington.
Following
our tour through the 2,500 student monstrosity and lots of little bubbles we
continued with our day. Hoping to find some khaki pants, which we need for our
actual project, we plugged H&M into the GPS. Unfortunately the location
that was only ten minutes away also happened to be in the center of Washington,
DC. While I wouldn’t say I’ve mastered city driving, I would venture to say
I’ve achieved a new level of competency. When we get ourselves together enough
to remember the SD card and our computers I’ll post pics of my impressive
parallel parking (I must say I felt like quite the badass). Forward thinking
like Congress, the city has adapted the future of meter technology and utilizes
ParkMobile services wherein the unsuspecting driver must wrangle with a robotic
bitch on the phone who claims that the number 7 sounds like a “j” or try to
download an app. Failing at the phone I did what any responsible and
independent young adult would and called my dad for assistance.
After
enjoying a quite lunch we set about to explore the city during the 30 minutes
left on our two-hour park. We wandered down 13th street and snapped
some pictures in freedom plaza. There was a fabulous statue on a military man
with a grand mustache on a grander horse. I had the pleasure of posing with
some sweaty local boys (pics to follow). Soon after we had to head home to my
cousin’s house (pics to follow) and grabbed out laptops to write these
extensive blog posts. If you’ve made it this far, congratulations please feel
free to comment, favorite, like on facebook, retweet, etc. From Washington DC,
this is Rebecca signing off, so good night and have a pleasant tomorrow.
