Today I
explored an abandoned Holiday Inn off Randall Park. It looked like a bombed out
apartment building from Soviet Russia. The windows up the side were cracked. Mattresses
and other pieces of furniture hung dangerously out of the windows. The hotel
looked like it had been abandoned for ten to twenty years. Most of the ground
floor window spaces were boarded up, probably because the windows had been
broken and it was too expensive to replace them. All of the doors were bolted
shut with large, rusting pieces of metal. There were only a few glimpses into
the interior from the ground. In one window, I was able to see a long hallway
with a desk towards one wall. This must have been the check in area. Garbage,
furniture, and broken glass littered the entirety of the hall. In another
window, I got a glimpse of the pool. This area looked a little cleaner,
although the water in the pool was black. Walking around one side of the
structure, I found the parking garage. It was completely submerged. Geese had
made what used to be the outdoor ramp into the garage their home. I just stood
there for about ten minutes observing such a strange place. I would have never
thought that a building could have fallen into such disrepair. Why hasn't someone torn it down yet?

I really want to see the photos you have taken of both the hotel and the mall. I have always thought it would be cool to explore an abandoned building like you're doing. About a month ago I was watching TV (I forget what show) but they were exploring an abandoned office building. Everywhere they went in the building, it looked as if one day, everybody just stopped what they were doing and left. There were supplies on the desk and floor, a few plants, and I distinctly remember a coffee mug and apple on a lunch room table. Did you see something similar in the mall and hotel, or were they both stripped of everything valuable? I'm sure you took great pictures of everything, and I am really looking forward to seeing them.
