The Lutheran Metropolitan
Ministry, the association for which I work, is understaffed and currently going
through the interview process trying to expand.
What that means is that the organization is using me to my full
potential, giving me a plethora of activities to do. Apparently, I am a general LMM volunteer, computer
skills teacher, small problem computer technician, resume builder, social
services “listener,” social enterprise developer, city planner extraordinaire. Amidst my time talking to the homeless, if
you read my previous post, I spend my down-time in the computer lab helping the
homeless with their job search or help them learn simple computer skills, even
troubleshooting when the old Dell computers don’t do what they are supposed
to. However, when my sponsor needs me in
the building on West 25th, and not at the shelter, I explore past
social enterprise business proposals (the end product of my main goal) and
write up detailed analyses of the ideas I have heard from the homeless about future
social enterprises. Today, which was new
and unexpected, my sponsor walked in with two big maps of Cleveland and told me
to go onto Google earth street view and “drive” down the streets to find bike
racks. Then, I marked their locations on
one of the maps so that the city of Cleveland, which just bought 200 bike racks,
can better place the bike racks around the city.
