last week, posts 2 and 3 in one
Hello everyone. I apologize for the delay in posts, but with my AP schedule the last few days and lacrosse games, I just have fallen behind. Anyways, to recap last week I will use this post and part of the next one. After the monday (which I talked about) we had a relatively regular week. We stopped meeting with our sponsor every day (even though he was still there) and our meetings turned into a nod of the head and a quick chat to let him know what was up for the day. Additionally, we have been seeing Molly Liebeskind and Lauren Kennedy everyday at the J, as they are doing a similar thing to us, but their project is more oriented around the classes, while our project encompasses a much broader sense of the fitness center. On Wednesday, Coach Walton came to visit us at the J. Oh and by the way, the J stands for Jewish Community Center (if you didnt know). We showed him around the center, and he talked to Andy (our sponsor) mostly about fitness equipment and the transformation that Hawken has gone through. We also learned that someone died in the steam room 3 weeks ago, which kind of freaked us out considering we were in there a few days earlier (still a week and a half after the guy died, but still, that kind of stuff freaks you out. So needless to say, we did not go into the steam room again after we heard that. Anyways, after Coach left on wednesday, we continued on with our day. The highlight of this day may have been seeing Andy (who is a 5 foot 6 Jewish guy, built like a stack of bricks, and not a fat stack of bricks, an incredibly strong and cut stack of bricks) casually pick up a 100 pound dumbell and bench it a few times like it was no weight at all. This was very impressive. Thursday and Friday were pretty much typical days. However, Friday being our last day, got me thinking about how the last few weeks had been. While I was sad to be leaving a familiar environment for something that was new (life time fitness), I was also happy to be moving on, as the J really is not designed for people our age. It was a bittersweet moment, and I am glad to be at life time now.
